Alabama football is back in Tuscaloosa! The Crimson Tide is 1-0 after absolutely destroying Louisville behind an impressive performance from dynamic signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa. Tuscaloosa will be electric this weekend as Tua gets his first start, and we have a ton of great events to fill up your weekend before and after the 2:30 game on Saturday against Arkansas State.

Kentuck Art Night 🖼

Just over the river from downtown Tuscaloosa rests Kentuck Art Center, the centerpiece of the local art community. One the first Thursday of each month they host a quaint little shindig to help you relax and explore their unique scene. They have live music, light hors-d’oeuvres and a chance to interact with a local artist and even purchase some of their beautiful art. First Friday Art Walk 🎨

The first Friday of the month is a special evening in downtown Tuscaloosa. Local art galleries open their doors late and invite the public in for a night of fun and exploration. With downtown being an entertainment district on Friday evenings, you can now grab your favorite drink from a local bar or restaurant and dig the local art scene. Galleries on your tour include Harrison Galleries, the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center, and local artist Caleb O’Connor’s studio. St. Paul and the Broken Bones at DCMH 🎶

St. Paul and the Broken Bones are back in Tuscaloosa. The Alabama natives will have Druid City Music Hall rocking on Friday night to celebrate the release of their new Album, titled Young Sick Camilla. The Orange Constant at Green Bar 🎸

If you recognize the name “Orange Constant” then you may remember this southern jam band from Tuscaloosa’s Live at the Plaza series earlier this year. This time they will perform at the more intimate venue Green Bar. This venue has hosted great acts such as the Alabama Shakes and St. Paul and the Broken Bones so you know you will experience a quality act. The show begins at 10pm, so don’t miss out on some great live music.

Alabama Women’s Soccer vs. Troy ⚽️

The Alabama Women’s Soccer team has heated up and is currently on a three-game winning streak right now. Look for them to carry that momentum into Sunday’s game vs. the in-state Troy Trojans. Druid City Music Hall has an incredible lineup of concerts this fall including St. Paul & The Broken Bones and Lil Yachty. Kicking it off this Thursday, August 30 is Papadosio. Reach for the Stars at CHOM 💫

If you are looking for something fun for the kids this Saturday, look no further than the Children’s Hands-On Museum. From 9-4:30 children can “reach for the stars” by creating space crafts, gaze at the stars, and enjoy a planetarium show. In support of Type-I diabetes research, Randall-Reilly is hosting a family fun day fundraiser. Come by Randall-Reilly Saturday, August 11th from 10 AM to 2 PM. This weekend at the Children’s Hands-On Museum they will be hosting a Super Mario Blowout. All day Saturday from 9 AM to 4:30 PM come by and show your platforming skills. You’ll have the opportunity to collect coins for prizes, play Mario games, and craft your own power-up item!

Screen on the Green 🎥

First and foremost is the weekly “Screen on the Green” free movie series. This Saturday at 8 P.M. the movie “Ferdinand” will be broadcasted on the Green at Midtown Village. This film is rated PG and is one enjoyable for all ages. Get your snacks, blankets, and bring the whole family for an outdoor movie, free of charge.

Blues, Brews, and BBQ 🍻🐷

For adults who are 21 and up you can look forward to Band of Brothers, “Blues, Brews, and BBQ.” This Saturday starting at 4 PM, come by for some BBQ at Band of Brothers Brewing. As the evening continues, enjoy free music starting at 7 PM provided by BJ Miller and the Mac Davis Jr. Blues Band.

Moth Week 🦋

Also, for those science fans out there, you can enjoy “Moth Week” with the Alabama Museum of Natural History. On Saturday, July 28th, come by the Warner Transportation Museum to get a glimpse of the amazing diversity of moths that are found around Tuscaloosa and other parts of Alabama. Calling all Harry Potter fans! Last but not least, also going on this Saturday is “Hogwarts Day” at the Children Hands-On Museum. Wear your costume and get to the CHOM between 9 AM and 4 PM to become a wizard for the day. You will get the opportunity to design your own wand, create your own house tie, and much more. You don’t want to miss this awesome opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a wizard at Hogwarts for the day.

Don’t get the blues! Alabama Blues Week is back in Tuscaloosa. The fun continues with the weekly Live at the Plaza, Black Warrior Brewery tour, and CHOM’s special event. Fill your weekend with our exciting and entertaining events.

Alabama Blues Week

Alabama Blues Week 2018 includes multiple live blues performances at area venues. The Alabama Blues Project is collaborating with the University of Alabama’s School of Music faculty and College of Continuing Studies to help keep the blues alive through this annual event. Not to toot our own horn, but the areas most talented blues musicians are here to perform for you! A detailed schedule can be found at http://alblues.com/. The community events do not require registration.

Some end of the week Blues Week events are:
DieDra and The Ruff Pro Band play on Thursday, July 12th, at Band of Brothers from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Live at the Plaza is another free event on Friday, July 13th, at Government Plaza from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Alabama Blues Week Concert is the exception to community events. Register to see the culmination of the weekend’s hard work put in by talented area students, renowned musicians, UA music faculty, and the Alabama Blues Project Advanced band. The concert will be held on Saturday, July 14th from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The doors of Moody Music Concert Hall will open at 7 p.m.
Blues, Bloody’s & Brunch is the last community event of Alabama Blues Week. FIVE bar opens at 9 a.m. on Sunday, and the band will perform from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Live at the Plaza

Tuscaloosa continues its Live at the Plaza summer concert series. Every Friday throughout the month of July, Government Plaza features local bands from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The family-friendly environment also encourages pets, so make sure to bring your furry friend to this free and public event! This site also provides information on this year’s special additions: the downtown entertainment district, food vendors, and exhibitors.

Black Warrior Brewery Tours

Every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Black Warrior Brewery offers a public tour. This is a chance to learn about the history and magic behind the brewing process. Tours are $10 per person which includes the tour, beer, and a souvenir pint glass. Sign up for a tour or request a private tour at http://www.blackwarriorbrewing.com/brewery-tours. Check in with the bartender and get your day going! Each tour is roughly 45 minutes long.

Inspect Insects at CHOM

Inspect insects at the Children’s Hands-On Museum this Saturday, July 14th, anywhere between 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Examine specimens from all over the world, make a bug hat, and decorate a bug. CHOM is the Children’s Hands-On Museum of Tuscaloosa. Three floors of fun for families, school groups, and more for children to explore, create and discover. Admission is $9 for everyone, with the exception of one-dollar off for those sixty-five and older, then free admission for any child under the age of one. Find a number of fast food and fine dining restaurants located within walking distance of the museum.

Paddle Board Rental

Paddleboard rentals are available on the docks by Riverwalk Condominiums and at Lake Nicol State Park. This is a fun and affordable activity for individuals, groups, or parties. Business hours can be found at https://tuscaloosapaddleboard.com. You can find workers at the locations, call ahead for reservations, or call for a delivery. In other words, paddle boarding is an easily accessible activity for all ages.

Lake Adventures

Lake Nicol, Lake Harris, and Lake Lurleen offer incredible views, safe hiking trails, and picnicking environments. Lake Nicol and Lake Lurleen offer additional water activities. You can rent paddle boards on Lake Nicol and paddleboats on Lake Lurleen. Along with that, Lake Nicol and Lake Harris provide picnic tables. However, don’t be afraid to just lay down a blanket or set up an ENO to relax at any of these beautiful family-friendly lakes. Lake Lurleen will be closed until Summer of 2025 for renovations!

Walk the River

The Riverwalk is one of the most popular places in Tuscaloosa. It is the perfect running, biking, walking and dog walking trail. The path is divided by a painted line for all walkers, runners, and bikers to enjoy their experience safely. Street lamps line the trail for people to visit at any time. The Riverwalk runs between Jack Warner Parkway and the beautiful Black Warrior River. Playgrounds, picnic tables, benches, and gazebos are found along the path of this family-friendly zone. In addition, the Riverwalk will lead you to food and shopping locations; including Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt to cool down your hot summer day.

Bower’s Park

Bower’s Park offers unlimited family fun! At 1600 James I Harrison Jr. Pkwy E, you can play numerous sports. Sports court gyms, lighted athletic fields, and tennis courts are made available for family-friendly activities. Find more options and activities at http://www.tcpara.org/parks/view/bowers-park. In addition, the Bower’s Park pool is a popular place to explore the poolside rock wall, giant slides, and more. With as many fun activities going on at Bower’s Park, you still have the opportunity to for a relaxing outing. Tuscaloosa has several golf course options: Ol’ Colony, North River Yacht Club, Links at Tuscaloosa, Indian Hills Country Club, Tall Pines, and Hidden Meadows. All courses are available on weekends. At Ol’ Colony Golf Complex you can find an 18-hole course, driving range, and a free 3-hole course with balls available to purchase on site. The North River Yacht Club provides an 18-hole course with an exceptional putting surface. Indian Hills Country Club offers a summer camp for junior golfers of all ages and abilities. Tall Pines Golf Club is Tuscaloosa newest public golf course. It is an 18-hole course with an available cart. Lastly, Hidden Meadows Golf Course provides an 18-hole course and includes a driving range and a large putting green.

Explore Campus

The University of Alabama is known to have one of the most beautiful college campuses in the country. At the center point of campus is the University’s quad. This is a perfect place to picnic, throw a Frisbee, take your dog, or just hang out. The quad is surrounded by an incredible view of historic landmarks. From the quad, you can see the President’s Mansion, Gorgas Library, Denny Chimes and more! At Denny Chimes, you will find why the University of Alabama is where legends are made. Hand and footprints of some of Alabama’s most legendary football players are found surrounding the monument. But don’t stop there! The Walk of Champions at the front of the stadium is where you can find statues of Nick Saban, Bear Bryant, and several other legendary Alabama football coaches. Explore campus for a historic and beautiful experience.

Live at the Plaza

Every Friday night in June and July, the Government Plaza will host live music by the best performers and bands in our area. So far, Tuscaloosa locals have come out each Friday night to enjoy the talent, delicious food, and lively atmosphere. This Friday, June 29th from 6-9 pm, The Lamont Landers Band will be performing. The event is free and will be accompanied by various food truck and vendors. Audience members will be able to purchase alcohol from local bars and restaurants surrounding the plaza, so be sure to pop in to your favorite venue and take a look at what’s offered! Bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair, gather up your friends and family and head out to the plaza for an evening of live entertainment. And don’t forget to bring your pets!

 

Tedeschi-Trucks at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater

We are thrilled that the Tedeschi Trucks Band will be in town this weekend performing at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater! The Tedeschi Trucks Band is a blues-rock group that has released three albums and won a Grammy award for the Best Blues Album for their 2011 release of Revalator. In the south, we love nothing more than to sit back, enjoy a drink, and listen to the soulful melody of the Blues. For tickets to the Saturday evening show, you can visit the amphitheater’s website at www.tuscaloosaamphitheater.com. Another piece of info that might push you over the edge to attending this show is that the Drive-By Truckers will be the opener! If you’ve never seen this Athens, GA based band that is all about the South then you simply must. This is the show of the summer!

 

Soul in the South at Hotel Indigo’s Lookout

Powerhouse soul singer and The Voice contestant Amber Sauer will visit Tuscaloosa on Thursday evening to perform at the rooftop bar of Hotel Indigo along with former American Idol contestant Justin Oliver. This is a unique combination of a great performer combined with an incredible live music venue that sets Tuscaloosa apart from other cities in the South. We have also heard word that Lamont Landers will be opening for Ms. Sauer in preparation for their Friday night Live at the Plaza set. Get tickets here, and don’t miss this incredible live music set.

This is what we call an eventful weekend in T-town! Tuscaloosa offers a range of entertainment: from food, to music, museums, and sports. You can never go wrong with our weekly events at the Farmer’s Market and Live at the Plaza. With that being said, we have some new opportunities for fun. This weekend Druid City presents the Songwriter’s Festival and Dames roller derby.

 

Farmer’s Market 

The Farmer’s Market can be found at the River Market located on Jack Warner Parkway. It is open every Saturday from 7 p.m. till noon. The event gladly accepts EBT/SNAP, WIC & SFMNP. If you use your EBT card to purchase tokens which can be exchanged from food and other eligible items from the vendors. It’s a great way to please the entire family with fresh produce, grass fed beef, artisan crafts, and more!

 

Live at the Plaza 

If you haven’t already, you need to check out this family-friendly atmosphere at Government Plaza. This is the fourth annual Live at the Plaza summer concert series that goes on every Friday from 6 p.m. till 9 p.m. As usual, great entertainment is lined up once again for the public to enjoy this weekend. Kick back and relax to music from Druid City Songwriters followed by the Mulligan Brothers.

 

Druid City Songwriters Festival 

Get ready for a Tuscaloosa takeover of the Druid City Songwriters Festival! Venues all over downtown Tuscaloosa are preparing to welcome over forty songwriters for a special “in-the-round” experience. You will have the opportunity to enjoy performances of multi genres in some of Tuscaloosa’s favorite venues. Druid City Dames Roller Derby

Children’s Hands On Museum 

The Children’s Hands On Museum is a place of curiosity, creativity, and discovery! Three floors of fun where visitors are encouraged to touch, feel and play in our exhibits. This weekend is National Ratcatcher’s Day! On June 23rd you have the opportunity to “catch” the rats in CHOM for a prize. The event runs from 9am to 4:30pm.

The popular stage play makes its appearance at Tuscaloosa’s very own Bama Theatre. Filled with Comedy, Love, and Suspense, the “Blind Love” cast plans to amaze audiences. Universal Sigh

Looking for some high-energy Rock N’ Roll this weekend? Swing by Green Bar on Friday, June the 15th to see Universal Sigh. From Athens, GA, the 4-piece band features an abundance of compositions to get the crowd moving. The band has been known to show similarities from well-known artists such as Umphrey’s McGee and Radiohead. Expect the show to start around 10 P.M.

 

Cookie Throw Down and Bake Sale

If you love cookies, cake, or just love to bake, you can participate for a worthy cause this Saturday, June the 16th at the downtown YMCA. The event helps support the YMCA’s Kid’s First Annual Campaign. From 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. you can swing by the bake sale sponsored by Mary’s Cakes and Pastries to show some support. Then, from 10-12 A.M. feel free to participate in the cookie decorations contest to show off your skills, and more importantly, to support the YMCA.

 

Black Warrior Brewery Tour

Go behind the scenes this weekend at Black Warrior Brewing Company. On Saturday, June 16th you can participate in one of the two tours that occur each Saturday at 1 or 3 P.M. you can join a group on the 45-minute tour of the brewery and taproom. The tour is $10 and includes a souvenir glass and brew.

 

HARD

Do you want more music to fill your weekend schedule? The band, “Hard” makes its return to Alcove Tavern on Saturday, June 16th. Known for “denim, sweet riffs, and leg kicks,” the band “Hard” passes through Ttown on an early leg of their summer tour. Catch them around 10 P.M. Saturday at Tuscaloosa’s one and only Alcove Tavern, one of Tuscaloosa’s most popular beer bars.

Live at the Plaza

First Friday
For all of the art lovers out there, this event is just for you. “First Friday” is held on the first Friday of each month in downtown Tuscaloosa. Local art galleries, businesses, and restaurants are open in the evening for the community to enjoy. You can hop from gallery to gallery, stop for a bite to eat, and enjoy the nightlife that Tuscaloosa has to offer. First Friday not only showcases the work of professional artists but of local and regional artists as well. This is a way for Tuscaloosa locals to come together and enjoy a night of art and community. The event will begin the evening of Friday, June 1st.

The Little Mermaid
The beloved story of The Little Mermaid will be sweeping the stage this weekend in Tuscaloosa. The Actor’s Charitable Theatre (ACT) will be putting on the production this weekend at The Bama Theatre. ACT is known for their exceptional quality of performances, and their newest production will be no exception. Come see Ariel and her friends this weekend June 1-4. The performance times are as follows: Friday, June 1st at 7:30, Saturday, June 2nd at 2:00 and 7:30, Sunday, June 3rd at 2:00 and 7:30, and Monday, June 4th at 7:30.

Low Country Boil
The Bama Belle is a riverboat attraction that has been operating in Tuscaloosa since 2001. The Bama Belle hosts a series of events for the community- just last week was the Bama Belle BBQ cruise. This weekend, The Bama Belle is hosting the Low Country Boil. While you eat, you’ll get to enjoy live music and a scenic cruise down the river. Women of Color Art Exhibit
This Friday will mark the opening of the “Women of Color” exhibit by local artist LaShonda Scott Robinson at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. The exhibit will display Robinson’s work in watercolor on paper. As a self-taught artist, all of Robinson’s work is inspired by personal experience. Robinson’s work has been displayed in art galleries all over the world, from Switzerland to New York City. Additionally, a reception honoring Robinson will take place on June 1 from 5-8 pm during the First Friday art walk.

Spring is in full swing in Tuscaloosa. This weekend (and through Tuesday) has some incredible local and national musical acts rocking the town. This includes a visit from one of Rolling Stone’s greatest guitarists of all time. Literally. Ranked. Alabama Roots Fest

Alabama Roots Fest is back for a second round and bigger than ever. This year the Fest is taking over all of Government Plaza and will have three bands for your listening pleasure. Think of this as the beloved Live in the Plaza series on steroids. Headlining the night is Robert Randolph and the Family Band. Not only is “The Greatest Show Above Earth” coming to Tuscaloosa this weekend, but we have a swarm of great events taking off. The Turnpike Troubadours will be at Druid City Music Hall on Friday night. Saturday is a big day in Tuscaloosa. The Children’s Hands-On Museum is starting the day off with a huge pizza party, and what kid can resist pizza? Then, The Druid City Dames are taking on the Montgomery Roller Derby team at the Super Skate in their second home bout of the season. Druid City Dames Roller Derby

The Druid City Dames are Tuscaloosa’s premiere roller derby team. They are back in town this weekend against the Montgomery Roller Derby. The Tuscaloosa Regional Airshow featuring the Blue Angels

The Tuscaloosa Regional Airshow is Saturday and Sunday and it is going to be a blast. Gates open at 10:00 am and there will be concessions, kids zone and an aviation display area throughout the day. The show begins at 12:00 pm and the action lasts until 4:00 pm. There will be helicopter rides available after the show. If you are worried about parking, there will be shuttles available to jet you over to the event.
