Northport Visitor Center and Heritage Museum
Step back in time at the Northport Visitor Center & Heritage Museum, housed in the beautifully restored Palmer House, a Victorian-era home originally built in 1907 by the Josh Palmer Family. Once located on Tanyard Street (now 10th Street), this charming home sheltered four generations of Palmers, each leaving their mark through thoughtful additions as their family grew.
In 1998, Sarah and Paul Sullivan generously donated the home for use as a museum. The City of Northport restored the home to its original character over a three-year period. The museum was officially dedicated to A.H. Bean—a community leader and key benefactor, in 2001.
Thanks to grants from the Alabama Historical Commission in 2022 and 2023, the museum has undergone improvements to better serve the community. It officially reopened on April 12, 2025, with new programming and events for visitors of all ages.
Inside, explore exhibits and photographs showcasing the rich history of Northport—from its Native American roots and early settlement in 1816, to the modern day.
What you will find in the Visitor Center & Heritage Museum: Family photos and history can be found in each respective room. The museum holds an extensive collection of early Northport photographs as well as artifacts relating to Northport’s history.
