Events in Tuscaloosa This Weekend
Don’t get the blues! Alabama Blues Week is back in Tuscaloosa. The fun continues with the weekly Live at the Plaza, Black Warrior Brewery tour, and CHOM’s special event. Fill your weekend with our exciting and entertaining events.
Alabama Blues Week
Alabama Blues Week 2018 includes multiple live blues performances at area venues. The Alabama Blues Project is collaborating with the University of Alabama’s School of Music faculty and College of Continuing Studies to help keep the blues alive through this annual event. Not to toot our own horn, but the areas most talented blues musicians are here to perform for you! A detailed schedule can be found at http://alblues.com/. The community events do not require registration.
Some end of the week Blues Week events are:
DieDra and The Ruff Pro Band play on Thursday, July 12th, at Band of Brothers from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Live at the Plaza is another free event on Friday, July 13th, at Government Plaza from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Alabama Blues Week Concert is the exception to community events. Register to see the culmination of the weekend’s hard work put in by talented area students, renowned musicians, UA music faculty, and the Alabama Blues Project Advanced band. The concert will be held on Saturday, July 14th from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The doors of Moody Music Concert Hall will open at 7 p.m.
Blues, Bloody’s & Brunch is the last community event of Alabama Blues Week. FIVE bar opens at 9 a.m. on Sunday, and the band will perform from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Live at the Plaza
Tuscaloosa continues its Live at the Plaza summer concert series. Every Friday throughout the month of July, Government Plaza features local bands from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The family-friendly environment also encourages pets, so make sure to bring your furry friend to this free and public event! Black Warrior Brewery Tours
Every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Black Warrior Brewery offers a public tour. This is a chance to learn about the history and magic behind the brewing process. Tours are $10 per person which includes the tour, beer, and a souvenir pint glass. Sign up for a tour or request a private tour at http://www.blackwarriorbrewing.com/brewery-tours. Check in with the bartender and get your day going! Each tour is roughly 45 minutes long.
Inspect Insects at CHOM
Inspect insects at the Children’s Hands-On Museum this Saturday, July 14th, anywhere between 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Examine specimens from all over the world, make a bug hat, and decorate a bug. CHOM is the Children’s Hands-On Museum of Tuscaloosa. Three floors of fun for families, school groups, and more for children to explore, create and discover. Admission is $9 for everyone, with the exception of one-dollar off for those sixty-five and older, then free admission for any child under the age of one. Find a number of fast food and fine dining restaurants located within walking distance of the museum.
