🍁 1. Step Back in Time at the Moundville Native American Festival
Step into the past and experience the rich heritage of Native American culture at the 37th Annual Moundville Native American Festival, happening October 9–11 at the University of Alabama’s Moundville Archaeological Park — just 13 miles south of Tuscaloosa off Highway 69.
This immersive festival brings history to life with artisans, dancers, storytellers, musicians, and more. It’s a fantastic educational and cultural experience for families, school groups, and anyone curious about the traditions and stories of Southeastern Native American tribes.
Festival hours:
- October 9: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- October 10–11: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Admission is just $10, and children 5 and under get in free. Whether you’re exploring the grounds, watching live performances, or trying your hand with a bow and arrow like many young festivalgoers, this event offers unforgettable moments.
🐐 2. Family Fun at Tuscaloosa Barnyard
Kick off your fall adventures at the Tuscaloosa Barnyard! This charming farm is packed with family-friendly fun — think petting zoos, hayrides, and wide-open spaces. Kids will love meeting the animals, while adults can soak in the peaceful rural vibes.
🎃 3. Pumpkin Picking and More at Griffin Farms
What’s fall without pumpkins? Head to Griffin Farms Pumpkin Patch for rows of perfect pumpkins, a twisty corn maze, and irresistible fall snacks. Whether you’re snapping selfies, picking your future jack-o’-lantern, or chasing little ones through hay bales, this place screams autumn fun.
🎨 4. Experience the 54th Kentuck Festival of the Arts
One of Alabama’s biggest and most beloved arts festivals is back — and it’s making a return in a new home! The 54th Annual Kentuck Festival of the Arts will take place October 11–12 at Snow Hinton Park in Tuscaloosa from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
With more than 270 artists from across the country, the festival features everything from folk and contemporary craft demonstrations to live music, spoken word performances, kids’ activities, food trucks, and local craft beer. Whether you’re an art lover, a casual browser, or just looking for a fun weekend outing, this event delivers something for everyone.
Admission is $15 for a single-day pass or $25 for a weekend pass — and kids 12 and under get in free!
👻 5. Get Spooky at Tech or Treat
Calling all little princesses, superheroes, goblins, and future scientists — Tech or Treat is back at The Gateway on Thursday, October 23 from 6 to 8 p.m., and it’s the perfect blend of spooky fun and hands-on learning!
Hosted by the City of Tuscaloosa, this free, family-friendly event puts a techy twist on traditional trick-or-treating. Instead of going car to car, kids will visit decorated tables where they’ll collect candy and explore exciting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities. Each station is hosted by City departments and local organizations ready to spark curiosity and inspire young minds.
All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Costumes are highly encouraged — and so is curiosity!
🧙♀️ 6. Ride with the Witches at T-Town Witches Ride
Grab your broom (or your bike!) and join the 8th annual T-Town Witches Ride, a costumed bike parade that supports The Arc of Tuscaloosa County. It’s a little spooky, a little silly, and a whole lot of fun. This year’s event is kicking off at Parker Haun Park on October 26. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for more details!

Looking for some peaceful fall magic? Take a walk along the Tuscaloosa River Walk, or explore scenic spots like Lake Nicol, Hurricane Creek, and Harris Lake. The colorful trees and cool breezes are the perfect backdrop for a relaxing day outdoors. (P.S. Lake Lurleen is closed for renovations until winter 2025-2026.)
🛍️ 9. Discover Hidden Gems at Tannehill Fall Trade Days
Shop ‘til you drop at Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park’s Fall Trade Days! With unique crafts, antiques, and handmade treasures from local vendors, this event is a seasonal favorite. It’s the perfect way to support small businesses and enjoy a festive fall day out.
This fall, Tuscaloosa County is overflowing with autumn adventures. From pumpkin patches to art festivals, spooky bike rides to scenic strolls, there’s something magical waiting around every corner.
