Join us for an evening with John Sledge, author of Mobile and Havana: Sisters across the Gulf , on April 6 at 5:30pm in the Ernest & Hadley Brick House!
This book presents a beautifully written and illustrated survey of the many historic linkages between these exotic port cities. Through an effortless blending of word and image, John S. Sledge, Alicia García-Santana, Chip Cooper, and Julio A. Larramendi, historians and photographers from each side of the basin, share a colorful, complex, and sometimes difficult story never before fully told.
John S. Sledge retired from the Mobile Historic Development Commission in 2024 and currently serves as maritime historian-in-residence at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf. He is a member of the National Book Critics Circle and the North American Society of Oceanic History. Sledge is the author of nine books, including The Gulf of Mexico: A Maritime History; The Mobile River; These Rugged Days: Alabama in the Civil War; Mobile and Havana: Sisters Across the Gulf; and coming this fall Mobile in the Heart.
