Visit Tuscaloosa and Historic Tuscaloosa Continue Downtown Walking Tours this April

Tuscaloosa, AL – Visit Tuscaloosa is proud to help history come alive each Saturday in April in downtown Tuscaloosa as it proudly joins the Alabama Tourism Department’s statewide history-focused walking tour initiative. Visit Tuscaloosa and Historic Tuscaloosa have partnered to continue offering Historic Tuscaloosa Downtown Walking Tours, providing an engaging and educational way to explore the city’s rich heritage.

The walking tours will take place every Saturday in April beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion and lasting approximately 90 minutes. Each tour is limited to 20 participants to ensure an intimate and interactive experience. While the tours are free, donations to Historic Tuscaloosa are encouraged to support the preservation of the city’s historic landmarks.

Led by Will Hawkins, Executive Director of Historic Tuscaloosa, the tours will guide attendees through more than 200 years of Tuscaloosa’s storied past — from its time as Alabama’s state capital to its vibrant cultural and architectural evolution.

“The Downtown walking tours will offer an engaging and entertaining way to experience Tuscaloosa’s history,” said Hawkins. “We’ll explore as much of the city’s 200-year story as possible while highlighting some of the most compelling moments from our shared past. It’s a chance to learn something new and walk away with a deeper appreciation for Tuscaloosa’s rich history.”

Visit Tuscaloosa President and CEO Kelsey Rush emphasized the importance of collaboration in sharing the city’s story.

“Partnerships like this play a key role in engaging both visitors and residents while strengthening connections to Tuscaloosa’s defining moments,” said Rush. “We’re proud to continue working alongside Historic Tuscaloosa to bring these important stories to life.”

Registration for the tours is required due to limited space. To reserve a spot, contact Historic Tuscaloosa at (205) 758-2238 or via email at info@historictuscaloosa.org. For more information, people may also contact Visit Tuscaloosa at (205) 391-9200 or at info@visittuscaloosa.com.
