Visit Tuscaloosa Announces Lineup of Major Tennis Tournaments Secured for Tuscaloosa Tennis Center


Upcoming events expected to drive significant economic impact and elevate Tuscaloosa’s presence in competitive tennis.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (April 09, 2026)Visit Tuscaloosa is proud to announce a series of newly secured tournaments taking place at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center (TTC), further positioning the destination as a premier hub for competitive tennis across the Southeast and beyond. Spanning 2026 through 2028, these events are expected to bring hundreds of athletes and spectators to the city and generate substantial economic impact.

“The Tuscaloosa Tennis Center couldn’t be more excited about the future of tennis and our community. This expansion will allow us to serve the game at an entirely new level,” said Mike Goldammer, Director of Tennis at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center. “Our goal is to grow the game exponentially through local programming, partnerships and competition at the local, state, regional, national and international levels while ensuring accessibility for all who are interested in the sport. We will continue working closely with key partners to deliver a best-in-class tennis experience.”

The lineup includes a mix of collegiate, adult, junior and championship-level play, showcasing the versatility and growing reputation of the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center as a top-tier facility.

“Since renovations began at the Tennis Center, with support from Elevate Tuscaloosa, the team at the TTC has worked tirelessly alongside Visit Tuscaloosa to attract local, state and national tournaments,” said Robins Bonner, Senior Sport Sales and Event Development Manager at Visit Tuscaloosa. “These events not only showcase our upgraded facility as a premier, championship-ready venue but also drive economic growth through tourism while giving visitors the opportunity to experience firsthand what makes Tuscaloosa the South’s premier college town.”

2026 Tournament Highlights:

  • The Tuscaloosa Tennis Center will host the ITA Summer Points Race Series on July 17 – 18, 2026. This competitive summer circuit is designed to provide student-athletes with the opportunity to earn national ranking points, gain match experience and compete for prize money against top talent from across the country.

Additionally, the center will host USTA Adult and Junior National Tournaments throughout June, July, and August 2026. These competitions are expected to bring significant participation and spectator interest, welcoming players from across the country and further contributing to the area’s continued tourism and economic growth.

Future Championship Events:

Looking ahead, Tuscaloosa has secured the USTA 18 and 40+ Mixed State Championships for August 20–22, 2027 and August 18–20, 2028. These are two of the most sought-after USTA State Championship events of the year, representing a major win for Tuscaloosa and the Tennis Center.

With continued investment and strategic partnerships, the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center is poised to play a key role in the city’s growing sports tourism portfolio, bringing high-level competition and new visitors to the destination for years to come. The estimated economic impact of these 2026 tournaments alone is more than $450,000, with an anticipated 300-plus competitors and 700-plus spectators in attendance. Events secured so far for 2028 are also expected to draw close to 400 players and hundreds of spectators  to Tuscaloosa for multiple days of competitive play.

“The Tuscaloosa Tennis Center is helping to transform an area that was ravaged by a major tornado in 2011,” said Kip Tyner, Tuscaloosa City Councilman. “The expansion of the tennis center has already led to new business opportunities in this area because of the center’s early success. Build it and they shall come.”
