Ernest & Hadley Booksellers is proud to welcome civic-minded community members to a new education series, Practical Democracy: The
Constitution, Civil Rights, Justice & Community. Led by local legal expert Jeff Baker, this weekly series is designed to empower citizens, promote the rule of law, keep the republic, and seek justice. The community-driven series will be held every Tuesday evening at 5:30 PM, beginning June 30 and running through July 28. All sessions will take place inside Ernest & Hadley’s Brick House. Over the course of the six-week series, attendees will explore critical and timely themes. Discussion is highly encouraged, and all members of the public are welcome to attend. Featured topics include: The Rule of Law and the Constitution, Civil and Human Rights, Public Policy and Advocacy, The Alabama Constitution & State Government, and Protest and Dissent. The series leader, Jeff Baker, is a Clinical Professor of Law at the University of Alabama School of Law. An Alabama native and graduate of Vanderbilt Law School, Baker has been a member of the Alabama Bar for nearly 20 years. His distinguished career spans practice in Mississippi, Alabama, and California, alongside teaching and directing legal clinics at Faulkner Law, Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, and Alabama Law. Baker is a dedicated public interest lawyer, a Fellow of the Fred D. Gray Institute for Human & Civil Rights, and a Fellow of the Alabama Law Foundation. He regularly writes and teaches on the intersections of faith and law, justice and public policy, and democracy and human dignity. Admission to the series is free.
