Description

Saturday in the Park at Moundville Archaeological Park on April 4, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. will feature Betsy Irwin and her gourd art.

Betsy is an artist and writer interested in Southeastern Native American culture. She is currently devoted to creating both traditional and contemporary works from gourds. She frequently uses patterns and symbols associated with native cultures in her art.

She formerly served as Moundville Archaeological Park’s interim director and its education coordinator and director for the Moundville Native American Festival. Now retired and living above Taos, NM, Betsy annually returns to Alabama, teaching at the Poarch Band of Creek Indians reservation and demonstrating her art at Moundville.
