NYPD cop John McClane (Bruce Willis), visits his estranged wife in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve, only for her office party at Nakatomi Plaza to be seized by German terrorist Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman). Alone, barefoot, and outgunned, McClane engages in a cat-and-mouse game to kill the terrorists and rescue the hostages.
