Looking for ways to celebrate Dad this Father’s Day weekend? Whether he’s a sports fanatic, outdoor adventurer, foodie, or simply enjoys spending quality time with family, Tuscaloosa has plenty of ways to make his weekend unforgettable.
Here are five ways to treat Dad to a memorable Father’s Day in Tuscaloosa.
1. Spend the Day Outdoors at Lake Lurleen State Park or Lake Tuscaloosa
If Dad loves the outdoors, head to Lake Lurleen State Park for a day of fresh air and adventure. Rent a kayak, cast a line, hit the hiking trails, or simply pack a picnic and enjoy the scenic views. With more than 1,600 acres to explore, it’s the perfect place to unplug and spend quality time together.
Pro tip: Pack Dad’s favorite snacks or purchase them at Lake Lurleen’s new on-site store!
Just minutes from Downtown Tuscaloosa, located in north Tuscaloosa, Lake Tuscaloosa is one of the state’s best-kept secrets and is a perfect spot to spend Father’s Day on the water. Rent a pontoon boat at Pier 43 or Captain’s Club and spend the day cruising together, or launch your own from one of three public boat ramps. When it’s time to refuel, grab a Bushwacker (Alabama’s unofficial state cocktail) at the Captain’s Club Market, or head to Southern Ale House Dockside for great food and their delicious ice cream cookie sandwiches – fair warning, they’re huge! Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s the kind of easy outing that feels like a getaway.
2. Eat Your Way Through Tuscaloosa
Let’s be honest—Dad probably wants good food.
Treat him to some of Tuscaloosa’s most iconic restaurants. Whether it’s ribs from Dreamland BBQ, barbecue from Archibald & Woodrow’s, seafood at Chuck’s Fish, or a hearty lunch at The Waysider, there are plenty of delicious ways to celebrate. Check out our full listing of Tuscaloosa area restaurants and use our Food Finder tool to find the best spot for dad! Bonus points if you let Dad pick dessert, too.

3. Tour the University of Alabama Campus and The Strip
You don’t have to be an Alabama graduate to appreciate the beauty and traditions of The University of Alabama. Start on the Quad at Denny Chimes, the 1929 bell tower ringed at its base by the Walk of Fame, where handprints, footprints, and signatures of Crimson Tide captains – from Joe Namath to Derrick Henry to Bryce Young – are pressed into the history of the campus. Seeing how Dad’s hand measures up to the legends’ is a photo op in itself.
From there, make your way to Bryant-Denny Stadium, one of the largest on-campus stadiums in the country. You can’t tour the inside over the weekend, but the exterior is a showstopper on its own. Enjoy the Walk of Champions and the bronze statues of legends such as Bear Bryant and Nick Saban stand watch. Just around the corner, you’ll meet Tuska, the nearly 20-foot bronze elephant who greets fans from her plaza on the edge of campus, and a perfect spot for another photo with the family. Tuska happens to sit right at the doorstep of the Strip, the stretch of University Blvd. that’s long been a local hub for restaurants, retail, and bars.
Want to take the history indoors? The Paul W. Bryant Museum is open and packs a decade of Alabama football (and more) into one cool, easy stop. There you can soak in the championship spirit that makes Tuscaloosa special.
Pro tip: Most campus buildings close on weekends, so plan this one as an outdoor walking tour. Comfortable shoes and a camera are all you really need. You can also enjoy it by renting a Veo Scooter on campus.
4. Play a Round of Golf
Treat Dad to a tee time at one of Tuscaloosa’s beautiful golf courses. Whether he’s a serious golfer or just enjoys being outside, it’s a fun way to spend a few hours together while taking in the scenery. Choose from local favorites like Ol’ Colony Golf Complex, The Links at Tuscaloosa, or Indian Hills Country Club. If the weather is dreary, enjoy the state-of-the-art golf simulators at Iron & Ember, which is located on the Ol Colony Golf Complex property, where you can enjoy golf, a bar, and a restaurant!
Pro tip: Pair a morning round with lunch at one of Tuscaloosa’s iconic restaurants, or keep with the golf theme and enjoy an elevated miniature golf experience with PopStroke!
5. Raise a Glass and Relax Downtown
Slow things down with a relaxing afternoon exploring downtown Tuscaloosa. First stop with a visit to our only local brewery Druid City Brewing Co., which is just a short drive from Downtown Tuscaloosa and is located off of 15th Street. Once you’ve enjoyed time there and said hello to our friend and owner, Bo Hicks, travel to downtown so that you can enjoy a patio meal, browse local shops like The Locker Room, Tom Beckbe, The Shirt Shop, and Mobley and Sons, or enjoy some fun at spots like Session Cocktails or Loosa Brews, which features a fun arcade room, a variety of beer and wine, and more!
Sometimes the best Father’s Day gift isn’t something wrapped up, it’s quality time spent making memories.
Celebrate Father’s Day the Tuscaloosa Way
No matter how Dad likes to spend his free time, Tuscaloosa offers something for everyone. From outdoor adventures and championship traditions to incredible food and live entertainment, Father’s Day weekend is the perfect excuse to get out and explore.
After all, some of the best gifts aren’t things at all, they’re experiences you’ll remember for years to come!
